It was a rather warm Autumn afternoon and Tonks had decided that she needed a drink, there was not much to do at the Auror office and they wouldn't notice if she was gone for an hour or so, her shift was nearly over anyway. She pushed the door open to the Leaky Cauldron and slowly stepped inside, taking in the musty scent that seemed to hang around the pub these days.
Tonks made her way over to the bar and sat down, she knew she shouldn't have anything too strong, she did have some sense in her after all. As fast as his frail body would allow Tom, the old innkeeper, sidled over to her "just a butterbeer today thanks Tom" she said with a small smile, looking behind her and around the pub at the many different witches and wizards who had gathered here today. She had a habit of doing that lately, staring at those around her, she didn't know why but it happened.
About five minutes later Tom came back with her drink, apologising for the wait but Tonks had seen the argument that had been breaking out at the other side of the bar and Tom was not as young as he had once been. She took a mouthful of her butterbeer and turned back to the bar, closing her eyes slightly so they burned behind their sockets, it had been a long day but it was a day of sitting around waiting, waiting for something that didn't seem to arrive. She couldn't wait to get home, at least there she could be with someone who loved her. She was lost in her thoughts when a familiar voice cut through them, bringing her back to reality.
